FAQ

What is the work schedule?

You should come prepared to work hard (7am – 4pm, Mon-Fri).

What do volunteers do?

Volunteer tasks cover a wide spectrum of activities including pounding tires, plastering walls, collecting materials, creating art, and more. We accept volunteers with a variety of skill sets and proficiencies… just bring a positive attitude!

How long are volunteer stays?

We accept volunteers at our school site in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala, for periods of one week to three months- or more! Individuals, interns and groups are welcome.

Can I work with students?

In order to provide structure, consistency, and efficient use of learning class time, we have made it our policy to limit direct volunteer involvement with the students to fluent Spanish speakers who are here for three months minimum, and who propose a curriculum/lesson plan to the school administrator and teacher prior to their arrival. Volunteers who wish to work with students must also provide proof of academic study or professional experience in the Education field.

How many volunteers can you accomModate?

Long Way Home values the energy and enthusiasm that student and professional service groups bring to the project! We offer a variety of packages to accommodate different budgets and schedules. We have been hosting groups for over a decade and can promise an alternative vacation that is both rewarding and rich in new experiences. To learn more about our price structure for service groups (six or more), please visit this page of our website.
