what have we done so far??

In 2016, with partners, Natural Building Collective, we helped build Delft Early Childhood Development Center in South Africa. With LWH assistance, they have recently petitioned the government to accept tires as an official construction material and will begin to replace shack housing in Capetown, South Africa.

Santa Eulalia, Guatemala - Long Way Home assisted Miracles in Action with tire retaining walls for their classrooms in the highlands.

Partnering with Earthship Biotecture, we were able to build two Earthship homes for families within the community of San Juan Comalapa. First in 2011, Maria, weaver and single mother of 6 (pictured right), received this beautiful sustainable home. In 2013, Romeo, LWH construction foreman, his wife and son (pictured right-below), are thrilled to represent this type of green construction as their new lifestyle.

“To me, the poor are like Bonsai trees. When you plant the best seed of the tallest tree in a six-inch deep flower pot, you get a perfect replica of the tallest tree, but it is only inches tall. There is nothing wrong with the seed you planted; only the soil-base you provided was inadequate. Poor people are bonsai people. There is nothing wrong with their seeds. Only society never gave them a base to grow on.”
— Muhammad Yunus, Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism
